I Won!

I don’t remember how I stumbled across it, but a couple months ago I found the CareGiving.com website. It has a LOT of wonderful blog articles and resources no matter what your situation is.

While I was checking out the website, they were announcing an incredible event! This November, they are hosting the 4th annual National Caregiving Conference in Chicago, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from where we live.

The week I had found the website they were holding a contest with free registration and hotel for the weekend as a prize ….

AND I WON!

At the time I had no idea how I would make it happen as my parents need 24-hour care. We really don’t have the money to pay for it ourselves and my two siblings haven’t been very giving of their time, especially for overnights. But I had 6 months to figure that out….

The very next week was when I received the call from the Alzheimer’s Association case manager with an offer of respite care through the end of this year! I have taken this as a sign that I am definitely supposed to attend this conference.

I’m still going to ask my brothers for their assistance and I know that Mom will beg them for it, having had an unpleasant live-in care experience provided by a local care agency earlier this year.

But, I won’t have to hold my breath about it….. because I have a respite care option!
